I’ve finally loaded the Steam Deck for Bub!

I have a functioning 1TB Sandisk microSD, so in Bub’s Steam Deck it has gone!

It took me the better part of a day and a half to download all of his games to it, but I downloaded all of his games to it and I am finally done with that. I am glad to be done with that because that is the “big ticket” item that he’s going to be getting from me for his birthday, and I know that he’s just going to love it. I just need to learn to work the buttons a bit better since the way they are set up is not native to me, but I don’t think that will take me too terribly long. We’ve been playing Chrono Trigger together, and I may go back and do the quest that gets you the Crono doll because it frustrated me at the beginning of the game when I was playing it on the computer with a controller in hand. Maybe it will be easy enough on the Steam Deck that I can actually do it. Either way, I’m getting that Crono doll. We are taking Crono with us to the final fight…

If it’s not one thing it’s another, but we make do.

Bub’s Steam Deck came in the mail yesterday!

I’m in the process of setting that up for him. I need to get a microSD card for it so that he has access to all of his games, and I’m in the process of having one shipped to my house now. It’ll get here when it gets here, and then I can finish putting this thing together and give it to him for his birthday. The theme of this year’s birthday is (probably what it has always been, but with a bit more oomph this time) games, because Bub loves games. That’s one of the ways that we’ve bonded over the years, and I see absolutely no harm in it.

I also got my formal assessment results in the mail, and I am autistic! Not that I wasn’t told that I was after I completed testing, and I don’t see it as a disability (I do have mild adaptive deficits, but a lot of those come from anxiety, and I have generalized anxiety disorder largely caused and exacerbated by… well, my mother, who I’ve written about, and who I’ll probably continue to touch on in subsequent posts to flesh this out a bit further). I have the results kept in the bottom dresser of my drawer where I tend to keep important things that I’m not going to need to grab on a regular basis, things that I’m probably not going to need to grab at a moment’s notice for some reason, so it is what it is. I mean, I already knew that I was autistic, so… yeah…

We’ll eventually get our hands on a Steam Deck.

Well, the person that I tried to buy Bub a Steam Deck from tried to scam me, but they didn’t get very far in the process. Within minutes of me making the initial purchase from them and sending them a question about shipping, they closed their entire eBay account in response, refused to answer e-mails from me about the status of the item, and have so far refused to answer PayPal’s inquiries about the status of the item or whether or not they are even going to ship it (they’re not). As soon as they made it clear that they were not going to respond to any of the e-mails that were sent to them, I had PayPal place a hold on the transaction money and begin to investigate it on their end. Through eBay, PayPal can see when they closed their entire account in response and how they have refused to answer any inquiries about the item though. I am in the process of being refunded for the item now. So I’ve been searching for another appropriately priced one…

I’m not going to have to pay more than I have to for one of these (and at that, the 512GB one, because let’s face it, Bub has amassed a tidy collection of games over the years), but at the same time, I just want to find one for a decent price. I can finance it on PayPal Credit and then pay off more than the minimum over the course of several months, so there is that. That’s always kind of been my plan going into this to raise my credit score beyond what it is. Having, and raising, a credit score has always been an American problem.
