So it’s been a week, and I’ve heard nothing.

According to the Social Security Administration’s website, it honestly does look like I am entitled to benefits off of my oldest son’s father’s work record because I continue to care for our mutually shared, disabled child… and those disabilities are not going to go away or become any less disabling. It looks like I’ve actually been eligible this entire time, but my family’s initial claim for survivor’s benefits was not properly processed owing to the fact that we had not been married for more than ten years. Because our son is disabled, my age and the length of our marriage are not to be taken into consideration when determining my own eligibility for benefits off of his record, only the fact that we have a mutually shared child who is disabled who I provide care for and will continue to provide care for. This will come out in the wash at some point.

Dealing with the state is fun, and by that I mean…

So I found out the other day that I may actually be eligible for survivor’s benefits off of my oldest son’s father’s record, because our mutually shared son is disabled which negates the age and length of marriage requirement normally imposed on these benefits. It also means that as long as I exercise parental control over my son, to include managing his affairs once he becomes an adult, I am and should remain eligible for these benefits without interruption as long as I do not remarry. This wasn’t something that was originally brought up when I applied for survivor’s benefits on my oldest son’s behalf, seeing as how it was his father who had died. But since there remains this as a possibility, I’ve tried to get in touch with the state to ask about it to see if these benefits can be instated to me. Dealing with the government is always fun, though… and by that, what I really mean to say is not fun. This is something that should have been explored months ago when the application was first filed and information on our household was collected, but it was not.

I expect the state to slow-walk this as they have almost everything I’ve needed their assistance for, though.

I am now putting together our new computer!

After… maybe a month and a half of putting it off, I am finally putting everything together on Bub’s (and my) new gaming and streaming computer. Everything is going about as expected, save for the fact that I knew (and know) it was going to take time to fully load. I do appreciate the graphics card being out of this world and something that I didn’t have to pay extra for, though… and the rest of it runs quickly enough that replacing our current Intel Xeon with it makes sense. The whole process of loading is what I hate to do.

But in other news, seeing this on my Facebook feed blew my mind, and I mean that in the worst way.
