Since I’ll eventually get around to writing about it…

A few days later, people are still shocked and upset that Heather Armstrong (“Dooce”) passed away.

I’ve been a follower of her blog since the earliest years, and she was one of the reasons that I wanted to blog in the first place. Humorously, I “Dooced” myself several years ago when I had another blog that my youngest son’s paternal grandmother found and summarily threw a fit over what I had written in it — for some reason she became angry at the fact I’d been blogging about the… safety issues I had with the father of my child, how I did not like to come over to his house or bring my son over there, and how I wished that I could (as I did wind up doing, to protect both of us) take my son and run. I haven’t covered the reason for all of that in this blog, but I intend to write about it at some point. Everyone else’s take on the situation that I described with the blog was that my son’s grandmother should have been more concerned about what I was writing about than angry that I chose to publicize it in my blog in the manner I had — and was doing.

For many reasons revolving around safety, no members of my son’s paternal family are involved in his life.

I like it better this way as it keeps both of us safe and do not regret “outing” him like I did for even a second.

For the people who don’t already know this…

Heather B. Armstrong (Hamilton), owner of the popular blog site dooce and well-known, talented influencer, passed away from suicide on Tuesday. Her long-time boyfriend, who she lived with, was the one who found her, and was also the one who began reporting it to the media (something that I don’t have a problem with in case the tone of this post needs to be clarified, as Heather was familiar with the media due to her job).

I should have gotten around to this sooner, but…

Even though we’ve been using the… desktop to do almost everything that we’ve been doing, I decided to begin repairing the laptop since we’ve had it for several years now and it is beginning to show signs of age. There are some keys on it that have scuffed to the point that Bub doesn’t want to use them any more, and I know the battery in it needs to be changed because we might actually have gotten this laptop at the start of the pandemic. Almost all of these things are things that I can do from home, and what I may need help with I have a fairly good idea where to get that help from in a city that boasts… what, 100,000 people? At any rate, this is a city that I would like to move out of, although not precisely for that reason. Until then, I’ll be working on fixing this laptop… and if that doesn’t pan out, as these things tend to arrive at old age faster than their desktop counterparts, I’ll begin looking for another laptop in the interim. It is what it is. I do like this one, but the keyboard scuffs exceedingly easily and I am not the biggest fan of the world of replacing HDDs in them.

I am kind of torn though because if they make 5TB HDDs, I would like one in the bay that I have available.

I would also like not to open this thing up more than I absolutely have to, so I am looking at limiting that.
