Some of the reasons that I homeschool my children.

· they’re disabled, so I can easily modify or tailor their education to maximize their potential with it
· we homeschool year-round, so they can take mental health days off from school as needed
· we don’t have to practice active shooter drills or worry about being shot while doing schoolwork
· they can choose what time of the day they would like to do their schoolwork, and they consistently do
· we don’t have to take any state test because of the state we currently live in, so we… don’t do so, which means that I do not have to “teach to the test”, or focusing on getting my kids to obtain a certain score on it
· we don’t have to worry about bullying or the kids being exposed to illicit or illegal drug use from their peers
· the kids can learn at their own pace and they know that the learning environment doesn’t have stress
· lessons can be modified when interests emerge (Monster loves dinosaurs and Bub loves undersea animals)
· they actually master lessons faster because their learning environment isn’t full of children who chatter
· I can more directly help them with their strengths and weaknesses because I only have two students
· homeschooling can effortlessly adapt to our schedule (appointments, therapy sessions, what have you)
· my kids are met where they are at scholastically and improvements are made from there
· the kids get sick much less often than they would if they were in a public school setting
· the kids can learn with hobbies, interests, or objects that they’ve already cultivated interest in
· both kids have clearly conveyed to me that they do not want to go into public school

Monster’s artwork has really become something else.

He’s made some improvements since I took this original picture, but his art still retains very much of the same style pictured here. Six years later, both of the boys have chalkboards and marker boards, and both of them prefer to use the chalkboard for… whatever reason. Anything that the kids draw are favorites of mine.

Well, I got my fasting blood draw results back!

All of the lipids are out of bounds (it’s actually suggested on the results page that I may have familial hypercholesterolemia because of how high they are, so I know it’s being taken at least slightly seriously).

My urea nitrogen count was also noticeably low, and not even slightly.

My A1C jumped from a baseline of 5.5 all the way to 6, although I do have a family history of that.

And my white blood cell count was also perceptibly high.

Aside from the familial hypercholesterolemia, we get to find out why all of these are out of range.

Well, it’s been an admirable effort so far…

I thought that I was going to be happy continuing to stay in the Emerald League since I found out that one of my friends had passed away on Easter Sunday, but… sometime between yesterday evening and now I’m in the top seven of the Emerald League and on track to be promoted from it unless someone manages to bump me down several places at the last possible minute (or two, or three). German has become slightly less difficult to learn as I’ve continued to make progress in it, although I continue to be a Rookie in both French and German. I’m pretty sure that I know more French and German than I ever learned Spanish two courses into high school, but that might have something to do with how horrible the district I graduated in is. With the exception of the most rudimentary things, I haven’t managed to hang onto anything that I “learned” the whole way through secondary school… and I did most of my own teaching myself, to myself, on my off time because it was like asking any of my teachers for help grievously inconvenienced them. Next year I’m sure people from my graduating class will begin planning what’s supposed to be our twenty-year reunion, and I’ve continued to make it clear that I don’t want to be invited to this because I don’t even want to be contacted by members of my graduating class. It’s actually in my permanent record at the high school that I’m not to be included in any alumni activities or contacted for reunions, or… well, contacted for any reason. The principal put that note in herself and so far, with graduation, I haven’t been contacted by anyone from my graduating class for almost all of the time I’ve spent a high school graduate. It is what it is at this point.
